SRC ID

Jack of all trades, master of…

I’ve spent the last decade (plus) working as a programmer, designer, information architect, user experience strategist, and account director. Most recently you could add entrepreneur and creative director to that list. Essentially I’ve touched just about every role there is within the process of defining, designing, and developing websites. From sites that simply communicate information, sites that support business critical transactions, to communities that support user generated content & open collaboration.

Source ID, my personal home online, was established in 2005 when I left my previous, first, and last employer, Agency.com. After living the corporate design life for just over a decade, I decided to go it alone. Since then I’ve done contract work for Rapp Collins, Area17, Utra16, More Than Us, GOOD Magazine, Ulta Cosmetics, Long & Foster, and an array of other clients. Most recently I’ve become a founding partner of a soon to be launched company called Kickstarter. You’ll definitely hear more about that in the near future.

The plan, prior to joining my partners at Kickstarter, was to develop Source ID as a full fledged interaction design studio. But as it turns out, Kickstarter has put that on hold temporarily. So I’ve switched up it’s necessity, and made it personal. I hope you enjoy.

Now for a little history

As I’ve said, I worked for Agency.com for a good length of time. And during my tenor I was fairly active within the network of offices that made up Agency.com. I’ve lived in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, and Seoul, South Korea. I also had the pleasure of working in the Boston, London, Atlanta, Dallas, Portland, New Jersey and Miami offices for various projects. So as you can tell I’ve done my fair share of traveling about, which was completely by design. I love travel, and the benefits it brings in terms of diversity of team, experience in culture, and challenge at many levels are the things that kept me going for so long. Essentially it kept working for one company for so long, bearable. It was a fun ride.

My little career (something I consider to be a dirty little word, and will likely post about) began in 1995, while attending Purdue University in the heart of the Midwest. It was here that I discovered the web, the Netscape browser, html, photoshop, illustrator, and the endlessly fascinating world of design. My course of study was Mechanical Engineering Technology, and since leaving school I’ve used nearly nothing from my education. But I did carry one amazingly valuable asset out of my experience and that is problem solving. The heart of Engineering and certainly the heart of visual design.
